Registrars and Rural Clinical School

Perfectly located in the heart of North East Victoria Ovens Medical Group is a popular choice for Doctors completing their Medical and General Practice Training.

Wangaratta is often referred to as the Gateway to the North East.  It is in easy driving distance to the many snowfields, wineries, and the great Murray River. Wangaratta has an excellent coffee/cafe culture and Milawa is only ten minutes away, the home of Brown Brothers Wines and Milawa Cheese Factory.  The local produce is always on the menu at the wineries and restaurants in the region.

Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre has a huge variety of artists performing each month. The Jazz Festival is held in November every year with many venues to visit.

The winery walkabout is another huge attraction for the North East - this is held on the long weekend in June and buses run to the various wineries from Wangaratta - it is a great day for both individuals and groups alike.

Ovens Medical Group is an accredited teaching practice and works with MCCC GP Training by providing General Practice Registrars opportunities to complete their formal General Practice accreditation.

General Practice Registrars are fully qualified doctors who are undertaking further training under the supervision of training accredited doctors in order to meet the accreditation requirements of the RACGP.

Ovens Medical Group routinely has positions available for GPT1, GPT2 and GPT3 Registrars.

Enquires about Registrar placement opportunities at Ovens Medical Group can be made directly with the practice, or through MCCC GP Training.

University of Melbourne – Rural Clinical School

In addition to our support of Registrar training Ovens Medical Group is a participant in the University of Melbourne Rural Clinical School ERC program.  Under this program Ovens Medical Group hosts 2 student doctors who have specifically shown an interest in studying medicine in a rural context.

Since the program commenced in 2010 Ovens Medical Group has hosted 8 student doctors as part of this program.

Patient consultations involving student doctors are always undertaken with the patients prior consent.
